This Dell 8-bay 2.5-inch drive backplane is designed for the PowerEdge R940 front storage bay assembly. It provides the drive-side interface for up to eight 2.5-inch drives and connects the drive bays to the server’s storage controller through the appropriate internal backplane cables. Compatibility depends on the R940 chassis having the 8x2.5-inch bay layout, along with the correct drive carriers, cabling, controller or HBA support, and backplane mounting hardware for that storage configuration.
