The Dell PowerVault ME584 is the high-density expansion enclosure for the PowerVault ME5 family, providing 84 x 3.5-inch drive bays in a 5U chassis. Unlike the ME512 and ME524, which are limited to the ME5212 and ME5224, Dell supports the ME584 behind any ME5 base array, including the dense ME5284. This makes the ME584 the primary expansion option for environments where maximizing storage capacity per rack footprint is the priority.

ME5 systems can support up to three ME584 5U expansion enclosures behind either a 2U or 5U base array. The enclosure connects through the platform's 12Gb SAS expansion architecture and measures 38.31 inches deep, with a maximum configured weight of 287 pounds. When paired with the appropriate base array and drive configuration, ME584 expansion enables ME5 systems to scale into multi-petabyte capacities; Dell lists configurations reaching as high as 7.39PB for an ME5284 with three ME584 enclosures.
