The Dell PowerVault ME524 is a 2U, 24-bay 2.5-inch expansion enclosure designed to add storage capacity to PowerVault ME5212 and ME5224 base arrays. Using the ME5 platform's 12Gb SAS backend, the ME524 provides a higher-density 2.5-inch expansion option for environments using SAS hard drives or SSD media while maintaining the centralized management and data services of the parent ME5 array.

A supported 2U ME5 base array can connect to as many as nine 2U expansion enclosures, allowing storage capacity to grow substantially without replacing the base array. The ME524 occupies only 2U of rack space, measures 23.74 inches deep, and weighs up to 55 pounds fully configured.
