The PowerVault ME5224 is a compact 2U storage array providing 24 x 2.5-inch internal drive bays and the same flexible SAN or DAS architecture found throughout Dell's ME5200 Series. Supporting FC, iSCSI, and SAS host connectivity, the ME5224 can be configured as an all-flash, hybrid flash, or HDD array and uses dual-active controllers with 24G of memory per controller. Dell's ME5 architecture delivers up to 12GB/sec read and 10GB/sec write throughput while using a 12Gb SAS backend for rapid capacity expansion.

The ME5224 can scale from 2 to 276 drives through ME512, ME524, or ME584 expansion enclosures. Dell lists maximum raw capacity of up to 5.72PB with three ME584 dense expansion enclosures, while the 24-bay 2.5-inch base chassis provides a flexible starting point for SSD and SAS drive configurations. ME5 data services include auto-tiering, RAID 1/5/6/10 and ADAPT RAID, thin provisioning, up to 1,024 snapshots, volume copy, asynchronous replication, and AES-256 data-at-rest encryption with support for self-encrypting drives.
