This Dell PowerVault MD3060E is a dense external storage enclosure with a 60 x 3.5-inch drive-bay layout for expanding disk capacity in SAS-attached storage environments. The enclosure houses the drives and presents them to an attached server, HBA, or storage controller, while RAID, volume management, and host access are handled by the connected controller or host software rather than by the drive shelf itself.

Compatibility depends on the supported external SAS controller or host bus adapter, the SAS cable and port type used, enclosure management module firmware, approved 3.5-inch drive carriers and drive types, rack space and rail depth, and available power and cooling for a fully populated 60-bay chassis.
