The Dell PowerEdge SC1425 is a low cost rack-dense, high performance server intended for clustered environments, such as web server farms, VMWare or Linux HPCC's. The lack of redundancy (single power supply only) or hardware RAID helps to keep the overall cost of the system quite low, but also makes its preferred role in the datacenter much more specific. If you are looking for a highly redundant, standalone unit, the 1425 may not be the system for you. However, if you are looking for a high-performance system to be used in a clustered environment, with a low price tag, the Dell SC1425 may be the perfect candidate.
The SC1425 features the Intel® E7520 chipset (same as its cousin the PE 1850), with support for up to two 64-bit Xeon processors at up to 3.8GHz (Single or Dual-Core) with an 800MHz front side bus, as well as a maximum of 2TB of storage and 16GB of DDR-2 400 SDRAM. Sold primarily in low-priced lots of 5, 10 or more, the SC1425 may be just what you've been looking for in a high performance cluster solution.
