The Dell PowerEdge 6950 is a 9th Gen version of the popular 6850, with a couple of very interesting twists. The most noticeable difference is the use of Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors. Other differences include lower power consumption without the need for 220V power, Gen 9 features, enhanced system management tools, and support for upgrading from Dual-Core to Quad-Core processors.
Featuring quad-socket 64-bit AMD Opteron 8200 series dual-core processors (with support for upgrade to quad-core CPU's), power effcient DDR2 memory up to 64GB, and up to 1.5TB of storage on five hot-plug SAS SCSI hard drives, the 6950 provides plenty of power with room to grow.
The PE 6950 is an excellent choice for users who require a quad-CPU system, but prefer AMD processors over Intel, or anyone looking for a powerful, highly expandable, and energy-efficient workhorse, wrapped up in a rack-dense 4U package.
